Documents requierd for an official marriage registration in Montenegro

If you want to have a official marriage registration in Montenegro, here is a list of the documents that must be provided: 

– birth certificate (with apostille);
– international passport – the main double-page (with a photo);
– marriage ability certificate (issued a registry office at the place of registration – with apostille);
– international passports of two witnesses –  the main double pages (with photos).

Additional documents that could be asked:

– divorce certificate (if a person was married before – with apostille)

– if you are widowed, death certificate of your previous spouse;

– certificate of citizenship.

Important! Scanned copies of these documents must be sent to us by e-mail at least 30 days before the date of the ceremony.

Important! The documents must not be older than 3 months at the time of marriage registration, birth certificate and marriage ability certificate need to be with apostille and you must have original documents with you on the day of registration.

Important! Marriage which is registrate in Montenegro is recognised as legal in more than a 90 countries. If you are not sure, does marriage from abroad will be recognised in your home country, please contact authorities in your town or embassy of your country in Montenegro.
Important! For the official ceremony, a mandatory requirement is a preliminary personal meeting with the registrar. Under the law of Montenegro, the meeting is held 7 days before the wedding day, but sometimes this period can be reduced.

Main rules and restrictions for the church wedding ceremony

Main rules and restrictions:

– a church marriage can not be conducted during fasts and during some church holidays;
– you must apply for a church marriage at least 30 days before the chosen date for orthodox church and not less than 3 months for the catholic church;
– only baptized people can be married in church (orthodox or roman-catholic);
– couples who are young, related (up to the fourth tribe) and those who get married third and more time can’t be married in church;
– a church marriage is held in the mandatory presence of witnesses, who must also be baptized. For the orthodox church, one witness is enough;
– for a wedding in a catholic church, the bride and groom are required to initiate the process of obtaining documents through their priest. All documents must not be older than 6 months, and must be sent directly by a local priest to the competent Diocese of Montenegro. If the documents are not delivered on time or are not valid, the priest has the right not to conduct the wedding. If after the marriage it turns out that the documents were not valid, the marriage is automatically annulled;
– all participants of the ceremony should be dressed in accordance with the church canons;

– in church, only religious music is allowed;

 

Please, note! If you choose any other package (symbolic or official wedding), additional payment for organisation and coordination of church wedding is 500 €.

Please, note! To order a church wedding ceremony, newlyweds may need a certain set of documents (birth certificate, baptism certificate, marriage ability certificate, etc.). This list may vary from church to church, so in each case, the package of required documents is agreed upon additionally.

Important notes

Important! The basic wedding packages include a minimal number of services for a wedding day, but the package may be changed or supplemented according to your wishes and preferences. You can also order any of the services in addition to your package.

Important! All sites in Montenegro (for example, owned by hotels, restaurants, churches or private individuals) are chargeable. The cost of renting such sites is paid additionally.

Important! In the case of multiple location wedding, there can be additional fee depending on total number of locations, number of guests and distance between locations.

Important! The basic wedding packages include the minimal agency commission. On all additional services agency fee is 10% (with the exception of the food and drinks costs).

Important! The cost of wedding packages does not include 21% VAT.
